It is no secret that with the hustle and bustle of hectic daily routines, we sometimes experience burnout and desperately need to clear our minds and calm our souls. It's times like this that a day-cation is exactly what is needed to reset our body and refresh our spirit. But where will we find the best place to spend a day recharging?
Many Florida residents enjoy the Island of Captiva or Sanibel as the ideal locale to make new day trip memories. With beautiful coastlines and scenic walking trails, delicious oceanside eateries, and an exciting variety of water activities, a day trip to Sanibel or Captiva is a trip the whole family can enjoy. With so many options to choose from, we decided to narrow it down to a few of our personal favorites. Here they are!

Have Lunch At The Bubble Room - Captiva
After wrapping up an afternoon of fun in the sun, check out The Bubble Room, a Captiva Island favorite since 1979. Their menu is fun for both kids and adults, with cool dishes like the Bing Crabsby, the S'Marvelous She Crab Soup, or the American in Paris Burger. Enjoy the unique atmosphere of bubble lights, antique trains and toys from the 20s and 30s, and fun Hollywood and holiday memorabilia. Check Out The Sanibel Thriller - Sanibel
Located at the Sanibel Marina, the Sanibel Thriller is a sleek, 55' yacht that's speedy, comfortable and lots of fun! The Thriller offers a 90 minute tour around Sanibel and Captiva Islands, hosted by a friendly and well informed navigator who makes the entire trip entertaining and educational. Learn stories of the islands, facts about wildlife, and learn about the residents who do or have lived on these islands in the past. Beneath the crystal blue waters, you'll find your new friends, the local dolphins, who have learned how to be the center of your attention as they surf and play in the wake of the boat. And make sure to stay protected. Bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen because the Thriller is not covered. Reservations are required and can be made here.
Visit the Historic Sanibel Lighthouse
At the southernmost tip of Sanibel Island, you'll discover the Sanibel Island Light, also known as the Point Ybel Light. It was one of the first lighthouses on Florida's coast, north of Key West and the Dry Tortugas. This iron skeleton tower with a decorative spiral staircase stands at 98 feet above sea level and was first lit on August 20th, 1884. Located at 112 Periwinkle Lane in Sanibel, this spot has a great pier for fishing and is also wonderful for shelling. But make sure to arrive early because this parking lot can fill up quickly. To learn more about the lighthouse and all it has to offer, visit the website here.
